Thinking that Guddu had boarded the nearest train, Saroo got on expecting to be found, fell asleep and woke up twelve hours later on his way to Calcutta, destitute with no way of knowing how to get back home. Saroo took a nap, and when he woke up he couldn’t find Guddu. On the fateful day, Saroo followed his brother, Guddu, to a nearby train station, where he had a job selling tooth brushes and tooth paste. The poor went to train stations to sell, beg or steal, or to use their wits in any way they could in order to survive. The railway stations were where the common people circulated, exchanging goods, money, food and even people.
